Great post, simplifying the process. Last frost for me is mid-May so I'd better get those seed packets ready!

I love this idea! Thanks for posting about it, Alison. We usually share with friends and neighbors, but I love the idea of seeking out a family who's really in need. What a great challenge.

this is great! I'm itching to plant, but we've still got a good month of heavy frost and nasty weather. Mid-April we can usually get away with cold hardy crops, May is planting month here.. just so far away!

This is really useful info, Alison. It's especially good to see that some of the shade-prone areas in my backyard may be OK for lettuce and broccoli.

Thank you! I'm a bit intimidated by trying to find someone, too, but I think the church will provide a nice collection point. If not, we have a nursery that takes extra produce and distributes it to people who need it. :)

We're planting a bit of everything, but I'm most excited about the snow peas and we're trying anise this year. I didn't even know you could grow anise around here and I love the stuff.

So excited we are putting up a greenhouse this year - small only 6' x 10' - but it will be such a huge help! My mullein is making it's comeback, so is lupine, comfrey, strawberries, calendula EVERYWHERE as usual :)

Took a walk around the property yesterday and discovered part of an old garden edging thing that had been covered by snow all winter and was lost in the overgrown grasses when we bought the place in the fall. I followed it around and discovered some bulbs beginning to sprout.

Can't wait to see what I have growing in the middle of my field. I may have to cut back some grass and see if I can give the old garden a fighting chance.

Once while camping, my mom and I left the showers after dark and saw something move slowly by. No idea why we were so curious, but we followed. We really thought it was probably someone's dog, I think, and wanted to help it. What else would be in the center of all the activity at a campground, ambling around like it owned the place.

We almost caught it before realizing it was a skunk. Thankfully, it never even threatened to spray.

Shannon, I'm surprised that you'd not relish meeting a fox. I'm pretty sure I'd love that!

Debi, I think the raccoons may prove a challenge with vegetable gardening. Perhaps I can find an answer for you.

Rosemary, thanks for the comment and for that great link. Now I know what to do if a skunk does move in, or maybe I'd better look at prevention.

Gina, what great stories. Thanks for sharing. Wow, how great that someone bought your house because of the skunk! The other story... not so great.
