Hi there Alison. I just saw you were following me on Twitter .. I am a bit hopeless on twitter but just wanted to say Hi.I was so interested in your family connections with your gardening and art! ...and also the mention of "slow things" on your blog list, as I had a couple of posts about slow things on my blog this week. I have also been reading again some of Charlotte Masons ideas on educating children in a natural way. Someone on the radio the other day asked if kids go on nature walks these days... someone else said no because of health and safety issues ... which I thought was a bit ironic.. I love gardening, just don't have one at the moment!

My maternal grandparents had a garden I got to help them with for bits of summer in Iowa. My dad's mom had a garden every few years in a strip of her backyard in Chicago, too, and I'd help her and Grandpa weed while the jets would fly overhead landing at Midway.

Then we moved to Wisconsin and we had gardens, goats, rabbits, chickens and I had to have that for my own children. Took us a few years, but we've started and we're doing it. The kiddos love it!

Thanks again for the Ranger Rick magazines, the kiddos are loving them, too!
