Why do I love to garden… well there is nothing more rewarding then watching a little tiny seed that I was gifted be put in the dirt and then grow to something so beautiful! I love gardening because it inspires others to get out and enjoy the simple things in life.

Okay, I’ll admit it right here: I garden because I’m lazy.

It’s true – I’ll be cooking something and I need an herb or some fresh greens for a salad and there’s no way I’m going to run to the store just for that.

As many of you already know, I’m totally new to gardening and so thankful to have found all of you to lend support in my endeavor. I’m looking forward to having yet another connection to nature right in my own backyard. I want the kids to see how we can grow and eat our own food & I also want to create a place the wildlife will enjoy.

It’s wonderful that we all garden for many similar reasons. My neighborhood is rather devoid of both veggie gardening and wildlife gardening folks, which makes me feel a little lonesome. This is one thing I love about writing – it connects me to so many interesting and like-minded people!

I think I garden for all of the reasons you mentioned, but like Kelly, I’d be outside whether I gardened or not. In fact my garden gets a little neglected from time to time because I’d rather spend the day in the woods!

Thanks for asking, Alison. Reckon all the 10 reasons you give apply to me, except maybe the last: I’d be outside even without a garden–find being outside rejuvenates me. So nice to unplug! Main reason I garden? Gives me and my family (and friends) a fine opportunity to connect with nature. Though we grow veggies, our focus is primarily on plants that support wildlife. Makes for fine viewing when the birds, insects and other animals come. Indeed, our backyard is my favorite place to explore. My garden is for the birds! And the butterflies, pollinators, amphibians, bats, and other critters. They are all in trouble because we’ve taken so much habitat away (Do we really need yet another Walmart?). I garden to give something back to wildlife.
