The Crunchy Chicken

red-hen-2409343295_c05fe55cf5_mFirst up in my Tuesday tour of green blogs and green bloggers is The Crunchy Chicken, otherwise known as Deanna Duke. If you’ve never read Crunchy Chicken’s blog then you are in for a finger lickin’ treat. Well, that’s if you like your chicken both juicy and kinda spicey.

What’s the Crunchy Chicken deal?

What is she known for, why spend your time with her, who does she cluck around with, and what’s this whole Crunchy Chicken deal anyway? You’ll find the answers to these questions and more here. And if your appetite is whetted go on over, visit with Deanna Duke, take a bigger bite, or hang around to share a meal or more with her long list of loyal readers.

Tagline: putting the mental in environmental
First Post: Monday, March 5th, 2007
Lives in:
Seattle, WA (or thereabout).
Writing Style: irreverent, funny, and provocative without being antagonistic.
Writes About: green challenges and sensitive subjects, while keeping the peace between differing points of view. Her signature challenges include Keep Yer Cool, Freeze Yer Buns, Buy Nothing Challenge, and Extreme Eco Throwdown.
Quoted For: the pros and cons of Fridge Free Living and The No-Poo Challenge.
Indulgences: likes eating out – tends to visit local businesses which serve yummy stuff.
Interacts With: Greenpa, No Impact Man, One Green Generation, Casaubon’s Book, Making Love in the Kitchen, Green as a Thistle, Crunchy Domestic Goddess, Green Bean and Arduous Blog.

Good and Bad

Bad At: responding to people she doesn’t already interact with. I’ve written to her twice and received no response. Sometimes she struggles to complete the reading assignments for her own book clubs.
I Like: she makes me laugh and also gets me motivated to change for the better. Comments on her blog are always worth the visit.
I Hate: her partial post RSS feed – ugh. It’s better just to visit her blog in person.
I admire: her prolific, quality writing and her dedication to her audience. How she does this while raising two children, one of whom has special needs, and supporting her husband through cancer treatments I really don’t know. No wonder she didn’t respond to my e-mails!
Makes me feel inadequate by: baking bread, growing tons of her own food in her garden, making her own soap, air drying her laundry, purchasing 100% green energy, running for exercise, and using a push reel mower. And all while looking fabulous!

Oh, and if you want to know why The Crunchy Chicken, pop on over to Deanna’s first blog post.

  • Ha! I think your emails went into Google spam. I get a lot of emails every day so I’ve stopped looking at what doesn’t make it through. Thanks for the reminder to poke through it now and again. And thanks for putting me in the spotlight! I’m working on a few new projects that I’m really excited about and will hopefully have more national exposure if things go well. Oh yes, those book clubs… sometimes I take on a bit more than I can chew :)

Crunchy, I don’t always remember to check everything that goes into spam either. I forgive you.

I’ll be interested to hear about your new projects when you’re ready to do a little revealing. It’s an exciting time for green blogs and green bloggers.

Keep doing what you do :-)
