Here’s some good news, Green Earth News, news about positive change for our wonderful planet, our Green Earth. After all, this is the only home we have.
#1 – No Impact Man Trailer
No Impact Man, otherwise known as Colin Beavan is on this year long quest to, well, live without environmental impact – “no trash, no carbon emissions, no toxins in the water, no elevators, no subway, no products in packaging, no plastics, no air conditioning, no TV, no toilets…” OK, that last one I’m anxious to learn about! See the No Impact Man Trailer. He’s blazing the trail to a green Earth.
#2 – Rebates Soon for Energy Star Appliances
Today the Department of Energy announced funding of almost $300 million for state run rebates to consumers for purchasing qualified Energy Star Appliances. Each state will be required to submit a plan for which appliances they wish to provide rebates on. The majority of the funding will be awarded by the end of November, 2009. It’s good news for you if you’re in line for a new furnace, A/C, water heater, or refrigerator. These are the appliances most likely to be chosen by states for rebates.
#3 – My Picks from TreeHugger
China commits to greater sustainability in palm oil – this may not seem important, but it’s critical for some rainforest areas. In Canada they’re combining growing tomatoes with power generation – one oft-unknown side-effect of power generation is waste heat. I LOVE this solution. And if you want to know what a year of seasonal eating in Oregon looks like, TreeHugger has the slide show. It looks delicious to me!
#4 – Green College Campus
I tend to get a little frustrated at the landscaping efforts on corporate and college campuses. It’s nice to read that one college, The University of Florida, have figured out how to incorporate native vegetation. It would be nice to see more photos, but meantime you can read about this at the National Wildlife Federation Campus Ecology Blog.
