I must have read 100 headlines. I’ve picked out 21 great Earth related news items to read in detail, I’m bringing you just the best of the best, well, I’d like to think so, but then again… Here they are, my picks for the Weekly Earth News:
#1 – Small Cars are Hot
I’ve never doubted it for a moment, small is beautiful. It seems that small cars are getting some attention. Over at the The Daily Green you can see a slide show of 9 small, hot cars. I have a soft spot for minis – too bad they are only releasing 500 mini E’s. I don’t much care for hot, but I just can’t resist cute!
#2 – Thumbs Up for Endangered Species Protection
On April 30th President Obama reinstated protection for endangered species. You can read about this at Yahoo News. Basically they’ll be checking for the impact on endangered species before implementing of government funded projects for roads, dams and mines.
#3 – No More Global Warming
Apparently the term ‘global warming’ is not doing our beautiful Earth any favors. Politicians and market researchers are known for manipulating language – The New York Times reports that some people are seeking to save the planet with a thesaurus. As far as I’m concerned, actions speak louder than words. I don’t especially like the term, but I’m not sure what they’ll come up with using instead. I say, let’s just get on with the work!
#4 – Scrap the trays – save the Earth
Also from the New York Times, we can save resources by scrapping food trays in college cafeterias. Now that makes sense to me. The first thought that came into my head was, “Aha! I’m sure people will eat less too.” Right enough, that’s what is being suggested when we go green without food trays.
#5 – Green Women Power
In honor of Mother’s Day, Treehugger has a slide show of 11 Environmental Heroines. If you only follow one link from my Weekly Earth News today, this should be the one. It’s really inspiring to see the women, from around the world, depicted in this slide show. Women who care about the Earth rock!
Which story are you going to check out? Did you find a great Earth story this week?

I’ve always had small compact cars. It’s nice to see that more auto makers are putting in more of the features and whatnots that they’ve always had in the ginormous cars in the small fuel effiecent cars.
I like small cars, but while most cars on the road are SUV’s and trucks, as they are near to me, it’s really scary to drive something small. I’m hoping we’ll see a change in this before long.
totally agree with your views , and save the world save the environment
Great list of 9 small cars – check out the Indian brands (you won’t recognize any of the names – just look for the Indian domain) and you’ll see a heap more, like the Tata and Maruti. The Indians do very good work in this area!
