Earth Day NewsWith Earth Day coming right up I thought it would be appropriate to share Earth Day News this week. Here are my favorite Earth Day News links from around the web; a little web tour with some commentary to go along. Stop 1 – Chiff.com has a really comprehensive page with links to everything from the history of Earth Day to events and kids activities. There are individual pages of links like pest and insect guides and kids gardening. Stop 2 – EarthdayNetwork has an emphasis on creating change through community action. Their site is very nicely laid out and easy to navigate. Use this site to find Earth Day events or to register an event. Stop 3 – Kaboose has a list of top 10 Earth Day movies and The Thin Green Line reports that Disney are planting a tree for every ticket bought for the Disney Earth movie. I personally intend to watch the BBC Planet Earth movie as part of my Earth Day celebration. I’ve owned it for several months and I’ve been saving it. Stop 4 – Our government provides several Earth Day sites to visit. At EarthDay.gov you’ll find information about greening your home, school, or workplace. They have a page of links for kids. In fact the Environmental Protection Agency announced on April 16th a new campaign to educate kids on climate change. The EPA also produces a daily green tip podcast. It’s great to see so much interest in helping our lovely Mother Earth. Stop 5 – From my e-mail Inbox this week Swaptree.com is a site for swapping books, textbooks, CDs, DVDs, and games. I’ve not tried this site yet, but I intend to as soon as I can figure out which book I can bear to part with! They are working with the Nature Conservancy to plant a tree for every trade completed on Earth Day. And Silly Green Stuff music videos (forget them if you’re on dial-up) designed to entertain kids. Stop 6 – Just for a little fun The Wilderness Society has a page called Migratory Max with links to a wealth of information about bird migration. Or how about taking a trip around our blue/green planet with Google Earth. For the younger crowd, Toddler Craft suggests a fun Earth Day rock painting project. Do you have plans for Earth Day yet? So far I plan to work in my garden, get my fingers in the dirt, and just enjoy being outside. Related posts: Comments are closed. |
