And full of surprises! I went out this morning to water my garden and was totally surprised to find that over half of the area I planted on just Tuesday already has germinated seedlings growing! I’ve never had germination like this with spring planting; I expected to have to wait around another week to see anything green.
One raised bed is covered in red clover seedlings, which I am growing as a green over-winter mulch to enrich the soil ready for spring planting next year. The other bed has a mixture of onions, lettuce and winter type greens. Everything except the onions is already showing. I chose all the seeds based on their short number of days to harvest, basically around 50-60 days. This means that by mid to late October I can harvest just before the weather gets cold. Some of the greens actually require cold to mature and taste their best. Others, like the lettuce, I should be able to pick from much sooner. Yum! I can’t wait and it looks like I will not have to wait as long as I expected.

Hi Alison, nice to run into you again on the internet! You were asking about post categories. Blogger calls them Labels, so look for that gadget. It’s about 2/3 of the way down the list of 19 basic gadgets that is in the Blogger Gadgets PopUp. I noticed that your lists of labels are all being read in their entirety. In other words, this post has one label called “sunshine John Denver Don McLean shirley temple scotland america eagle rocky mountain guitar bambi lassie laurel hardy.” In order to have them show up as separate labels, you’ll need to separate them with commas. The blogger Edit Posts main page has some tools that allow you to do mass application and deletion of labels on previous posts. Hope that helps!
Welcome to the world of blogging! I haven’t had time to read through your blog yet, but hope to snatch a few minutes to ‘catch up’ with you and yours. Cheers!
Thanks for the information Miranda. I told you I was new at this – what an error to have made!!!! I’m so glad I asked so that I could fix this before writing hundreds of posts! I’m just going to hand-edit a few at a time. It won’t take too long to get through them as I only have a couple of weeks of posts so far
That is one reason I love fall gardening – much faster germination!
PS Thanks for your insight on food delivery you commented on my blog – very interesting!
